How do I track down a short in my 280z.If it sits overnight the battery goes dead.If I unhook the battery It stays charged.

There are as many ways to proceed as there are people out there. Here is but one way...

If you have a wiring diagram and an ammeter that senses current by placing it around the wire (most electricians have one of these in their toolbox), you can isolate each circuit and check it. Once you find the circuit with the current draw, make your way down the path until you find the short. But study the diagram and check the most likely suspects first. It may very well be one of the lighting circuits as larryjam has suggested.

Does your zed have A/C??

If so you may have the same prob i had a few years ago, a wire near the A/C compressor pulley some how was to close and rubbed through and pretty much blew the fussible links. Check there, maybe its only just starting to go through!
