Hello everyone, i wanted to get some feed back on if anyone had or has installed the corvette sytle ehause pipes on there datsun. I know some people have but the question i wanted answered was how did it affect the exhause smell over the stock configeration. I was just thinking about doing this mod. Yes i know the strait 6 aonly has exhause ports on one side of the engine so i will have to but a set and install them on both sides and the passenger side will be a dummy set. Just wanted to get some feed back on this idea.

thanks, lots of info there. Thanks for the heads up
A lot of money for ground clearance issues and a crappy sound.Even V-10's don't sound right thru them.
good to know, it was just a thought, but of cource an expensive thought as most of them are
naw man ,

where else could you put that money?
I wouldn't suggest it. But if you do go through with it I would fab it up so both of them work. If not it will quite obvious when you turn the car on.
i will pass, that kinda money can be spent in better ways

I was looking through craigslist and happen to find a z with side pipes

If you want to go with SP's and not have a ground clearance issue then you have to use the square piping (very expensive).
I've always called them 'leg warmers'.

I can guarantee that those Z's with the side pipes have had the small block v8 swap. It makes absolutley no sense to attempt it on a straight six. You will lose considerable ride height. Also the main advantage of utilizeing the side pipes for a v8 swap is that there is little room in the transmission tunnel for two 2.5inch exhaust pipes and a larger then stock transmission. Just compare a 700r4 or a 6spd manual to the size a stock transmission. Plus heat kills automatic transmissions and you can eliminate quite a large heat source from just under the trans.
That all makes perfect sence, thanks for your thoughts
I owned the below cobra replica for 9 years. I would trade the sidepipes for rear exiting exhaust any day. The down sides of the side pipes: exhaust smell 3 feet from your head, exhaust sound 3 feet from your head, ground clearance, and it is a source of burning unsuspecting people on the pipes. The burning part can be reduced with adding a shield, but that adds expense and is frankly not all that great looking (except on a vette)

I just asked my body man about this config. He said would require major frame work. So I nixed it.

I took the Cobra out one morning and ran it hard on some country roads, while the family was out running errands. I was back before them and parked it in it's spot in the garage. My daughter (12 at the time) gets out of the car and backs into the sidepipe and gets a nasty burn on her leg. I felt like selling the car the next day. It took 5 or so years for the scar to fade to the point where it is not that noticable.
Things happen.Hopefully she learned a lesson. My GF burned her leg getting out of the Cobra. We're married now.Cobras are supposed to be mean, loud,nasty,un-comfortable and dangerous.Just the way that POS Shelby intended.
^^^ That is why I call them leg warmers.
