Hey I am new here, I just got into a 1978 datsun 280z. I got with a sun rod bearing and a bent frame. I think it was in an accident and the underbody next to the front stabilzer? bar...got bent, I was gonna try to hammer it back together and reweld it up. The question is there a way to make sure it will track straight after I'm done or am I wasting my time? thanks for the input.

Unless you are a pro body man (obviously you aren't since you are asking the question :) ), I suggest taking it to an auto collision shop w/ a frame rack & have it checked out. Otherwise you will be hammering on it till your hands fall off (mainly because that's NOT how you straighten a frame).
The FSM has in it a set of specs to use when straightening the frame. If your body man, with a frame straightener machine, does not have these specs, he will need these.
the crack is about 8 inches from the front 'rear' stabilizer arm? and the front wheel. the open seam is about 1/4" or so. I'm a pretty good welder and bodyman, but I'm just not sure if the car will track unless I like you guys suggested take it to a pro shop sorry I'm a DIYer. I heard that you could drill a hole at the end of a ripped seam and that will stop the crack from worsening and then reweld it...
We're not sorry that you are a DIYer.... Norm K.
How about posting a couple of pics ? This damage sounds much more involved and may take even the right expierienced frame guy to repair correctly. Just from your description the question of where the damage stopped comes to mind and it appears to be unknown at this time.
I'll take some pics, it's pretty gnarly. but overall the car is in ok shape. not alot of rust and almost running.
