Is it USB or serial? You may need proper drivers for it to work.

Hey guys,
Hoping to get some help. I purchased the consult from the link below. Got it in the mail, plugged it into the port and then into my laptop. I have the conzult software loaded but of course after waiting days for this thing to get here from China, nothing happens. Not sure if a light on the unit itself is supposed to go on or not (I am assuming that it should). I e-mailed the guy I got it from but was hoping to see if anyone else who may have one has any suggestions.

It is serial but I have a usb to serial cable.
you still need the software driver for it to work. I had the same problem

I got the usb from Radio Shack and the consult from e-bay (some guy in China). I am going to mess around with it and see what I can come up with in terms of getting the drivers for the cable.
They are online somewhere.
