you be fine with out it in 40's maybe when the weather gets down to 20's.......never in CA... lol. Anyway, a new cold start is high, like $100. I would post awant to buy under this website. I've had a real good luck with it.

My FSM says:

Thermotime Switch
Cooling water tempeature
Below 14 C (57 F) = Switch ON.
Between 14 C to 25 C (57 F to 77 F) = Switch ON or OFF (indeterminate)
Above 25 C (77 F) = Switch OFF

And the resistance of the heating coil inside the switch should be 40 to 70 ohms.

i bypassed all the wiring to my cold start valve and
put in a switch inside the car
so on cold nites i just tap the switch and turn the ignition key to start it
and it starts right up
