i just went to price a clutch for my car and the guy asks me what size it is. i gave him the year and model but it gave two options. 8.5 and 9something. i have an '83 280zx n/a i didnt know there were two options and therefore have no idea what my car needs. if anyone knows i would greatly apreciate the help. also i thought about upgrading to a slightly better than stock unit. what have clutches have you all used in your cars? and what would be a good mid range aftermarket one for me. im not really making that much more power over stock. probally around 170 or so. so i dont need anything monster like but i do plan on adding some power later on. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks PETE

I just went through this on my Z. I bought a Centerforce II (Part number CFT583402). Havn't really tested it out yet but, I havn't had any problems so far (the second day after installation). Check www.centerforce.com if you would like a description of the clutch I bought. I hear it's somewhat better than stock. I can't compare it to the original clutch, because it was an automatc 3 days ago so...

I'm not sure what the numbers are that guy you talked to is talking about, but there are two different sized flywheels in all L24/L26/L28 engine Z's have. The difference is the contact surface of 225MM or 240MM. The first is found on non-turbo ZX's, the second is found on 2+2 and Turbo ZX's.
