hello all !!!
i own a 1980 280zx and when my car is sitting stil at an idle, i can hear a clunk,clunk,clunk........... sound coming from my gear shifter, via'' 5-speed ok!
when i push the clutch in, it go's away, when when i take my foot off of the clutch, it come's back, when when i take-off and drive in 1st gear i can here it clunk, clunk, clunk, and the noise speed's up as the car does, but it does'nt do it in any other gear, i'm thinking that it may be the release bearing, or the pressure plate.
any suggestion's guy's it shift's in all gear's fine!!!! thank';s in advanc'ed for all your help!!!!

Strange problem, It sounds as though you may have taken a tooth off either your input shaft or 1st gear on the countershaft, it should make the noise in all gears except 4th but yours doesn't? Also if it was the release bearing you say it makes the noise in 1st but no other gear. The release bearing is doing the same thing in 1st as it does in all the other gears so it should make the noise all the time.
If you can see if you can get a shop to run the car on a hoist and listen under the car.
