aha
put trans in neutral with car running
push in clutch- if you now hear noise and it goes away when you let the clutch out then it should be the throwout bearing
reason is that bearing is only used when the pedal is pushed

I think it's the throw out bearing. I just replaced my clutch with the stock 9 7/8 disc. It's making simular noise like a high pitched sound. When ever I have the clutch down the clutch sounds like it's winding down loose. When It's in idle it does the same thing it sounds like the pressure plate is loose.... How long do you think I can get away with it, without hurting anything? It was a b&*ch putting the clutch in.

throwout bearing is only used when pedal is down and runs at ENGINE speed
if it winds down I am inclined to agree with hotroder and say that it is input shaft bearings or such making noise as the trans shaft speed drops since the engine is not coupled when the pedal is in.
