Please help if possible.
When i'm driving along with my foot on the gas everything sounds fine. When i take my foot off the gas and just coast there is a clunking, sounds like metal on metal. If i put my foot on the clutch the sound goes away.
I had someone tell me it could be motor mounts, does this sound accurate?
Its a 1980 280zx 2+2 5speed
Thanks

Welcome, Stinn.

This is a common question here. A big problem with Zs. I suggest you click Search on this forum and type in "clunk" (without the " " ). You will see many discussions on the subject. There are a lot of parts back there that could be contributing to it. It may be just one bolt is loose, or it could be several. There are also several ways you can test it to narrow down the source.

Good Luck.

thanks willy , unfortunately all the clunking they are talkin about seems to come from the back of the car where as mine seems to come from the front, or right below the seat. Any other suggestions would be great

clunk from directly below drivers but is usually the transmission mount.
to check
jack up car and place on jackstands
slide under car
grab back end of transmission and shove it up
if it moves mount is bad
