Cleaning garage floor?

1042 Views 14 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  KyleKidd
I am moving to a new place (not my choice, the stupid owner of the house we live in now decided not to pay his mortgage).

So I have to clean the garage floor that has all sorts of oil, hyd, blood, and paint stains. I have tried the powder cleaner and it did not work at all. Now I am using Muriatic Acid that I will let soak into the concrete over night and then spray it down with a power washer. I hope this will take up the majority of the stains.

Does any one else know what I can use that's some what cheap?

Muriatic will not touch anything petroleum based. That means paints, oil hyd fluid all that stuff will still be there while the acid eats the concrete.Dawn dishwashing soap or Super-Clean.Scrub and let soak over night.Hose it.Let dry-repeat.Then the acid.
Breach over the last washing and rinse.
torch and scrub them... lol
For the oil & grease spots, pour enough solvent to wet the spot. Scrub with a plastic or brass wire brush until liquified. Cover with 'oil dry' rubbing it into the spot till dry. Repete if needed.

I may get flamed for this, but are you trying to clean it because you think you will get your deposit back? Or maybe if you do clean it, you won't get a bad renter mark from the land lord who is losing the house?

Just curious.

btw, I use kitty litter and a bit of lighter fluid and keep it well ventilated. Unless there is a gas heater close by.
To me, 'kitty litter' IS oil dry. :)

I like the Fire idea, to bad we have a gas heater in there. I'll try some of these ideas, new place is getting an epoxy coating on the floor.
Ever try oil eater? I cleaned my parents carport with it and it removed 3 year old oil and gnashed in grease stains with pressure washing. Pressure washing seems to work very well with concrete. With oil eater you pour it out and let it settle as an extra I scrub the **** out of the thing I'm cleaning then blast it and it looks very clean when done.

Purple power!
Palladin. I'm convinced you must use purple power for everything: parts cleaning, floors, teeth, shower, shampoo, .....! :)
Move & forget it. New owner will use nasty floor as excuse to get price discount. You won't get deposit back because current owner is broke & can't pay. Take the mirrors & toilet paper with you & whatever else ie hose, flower pots.... At least that will be a little towards getting your deposit back.
