Cheapest Coilovers

5868 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  racerbud
Looking for the least expensive coilovers around. I want the whole coilovers not just the spring.

I'm tight on cash but I'm just not loving the way my zx looks compared to slammed ones.

Any help would be great!!!

when it comes to springs I wouldn't recommend going cheap... if your suspension is cheap, your braking and handling will be too...

but if you must, just check ebay but don't expect them to work wonders... it will look nice when parked, but then you got other issues to worry about alignment wise
I have...

powertrix coilovers on my car. They handle very well, much better than the Tokiko Lumina/Ground control springs combo I had before. But when it comes to ride comfort, that is a different story.

The springs are awfully rough, especially at slow speeds on bumpy roads. NOw when you get enough speed to generate a little down force and pre load the springs a little, it's better, but if I can get the money together, I am going to order some swift springs for it.
Several years ago, I asked about Megan coilovers and I had some tool in a Z forum try to sell me his Ground Controls because anyone asking about Megan 'had no clue.' Tool.

Do you have the sport/street ones? If you do, did you remove the helper springs? I still have the helper springs on my set, and I feel it rides kinda soft...then again compared to how my 280ZXT rides, ANYTHING is soft.

I thought Megan Racing made some pretty good suspension parts, or at least for the 240sx.. Is there coilovers really not that good?? Cause i was looking at theirs..

Yeah...

sport street with 5/7 kg spring rates. I took the helper springs off, and that made it not feel like it was bottoming out every sharp bump I hit, but they are still awfully stiff. I have the rears on 2 on damping and the fronts on 3. I think it's just the springs that make it ride so rough.

So did you buy the Megans B?
I think B has some SPL coilovers... Kind of necessary with his 21"-wide rear wheels... ;)
so yeah that clears things up. LOL
Got a set of SPLs. I looked at the Megans theres absolutely ZERO feedback.
The suspension is no place to scrimp. You can turn a cornering demon into a sloppy, back room saloon ho. I dunno what that even means... but i prefer the prior.
I generally get what I pay for, as most do. If I were going for cheap, I'd buy the very best, but only for one side.
