Charging System

Okay my car seems to have a simple problem with the charging system. As soon as I remove jumper cables from the battery the car dies. Seems like the alternator isn't giving enough juice to keep the car going. I took the alternator to Kragens and had it bench tested and it seemed to be fine.

Is this a wiring problem? I've gone through the wiring a few times and I can't seem to find any bad connections.

You need to start with a fully charged battery, then measure the voltage on the battery when the car is running, should be between 13 and 15 volts. If it appears that the car is running on battery charge alone, then you've obviously got a problem between the alternator and the battery, possibly the regulator. I recommend converting to an alternator with an internal regulator from a 280zx or later.
I recommend switching to the 280ZX internally regulated alternator. The rewiring is much simpler than it seems.
Also replace the battery wires and clean the battery posts. Doing those two things fixed my car 100%.
A volt meter works wonders here for you.
If the engine dies right away, the battery is kinda sad. Norm PS: A happy battery measures 12.6volts at rest.
