What do i need to get from a 280zx to transfer the injection system to my 260z..

i no i need the whole intake system, injections etc...

but not all sure about the computer, and fuel pump...

Also is it worth it to change to the 280zx injection, i've heard that it isn't that strong, but i only have a stock L26 motor with exhaust... and i am thinking into putting the injection system on...

You will need the computer and harness that plugs into it. (ECU + EFI harness)
I would also get the ignition box and wiring along with the distributor. Your going to need a head temp sensor as the ZX ECU expects it or there may be a way to fool it but I think this is the biggest hold up as the head on your 76 isn't drilled and tapped for the sensor. There are a few more sensors you may be missing near the thermostat. I know I'm forgetting things but its mostly wiring issues.

Doesn't your 76 have EFI - the difference between the 76 and 82 EFI systems only is marginal at best as far as performance?

Not only do you need the entire intake, computer, wiring harness, fuel pump, etc... you'll need to do something about the lack of injector ports on your 260Z. Also, you'll need to modify the fuel tank or get a early 280Z fuel tank.

That said, it would be easier to drop in the entire 280ZX motor, and if you're going to all the trouble, make it a 280ZX Turbo to make it worth the effort.

With the stock 260Z motor, just get some 240Z round top SU carbs, and it will run like a dream for very little effort.

Re: DONT BOTHER

IVE GOT A 280ZX AND IVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBS WITH THE FI, AT THE MOMENT IM SWAPPING IT OVER TO 2 X 2" SU'S WITH K & N FILTERS, SO I WOULD NOT DO IT. LIKE MATT SAID PUT SOME BETTER CARBS ON INSTEAD.

Re: DONT BOTHER

I'm pretty sure Zpeed's car is a '76 - but its an Oz spec 260Z.

manfold
dizzy
ECU
wiring harness
afm
air box (for the air filter)
fuel pump

fuel tank you dont need to change - i think the zx had some kind of secondary reservior, but you can get away without it. Steve at Speed Tech said that it might reduce fuel flow if you were going around a corner or something with less than a 1/4 tank of petrol-nothing to worry about, and ive never experienced it. I always fill up on E which ie around 1/4 tank left.

Re: DONT BOTHER

i do have some round top SU's here, but i need to get them rebuilt and if i can pick up an injection system for the amount that will be better, for my cars use at the moment... economy wise...

Right now i have flat tops on there... and they arn't working to bad... but again i hate them... they feel like crap and just are terrible.. even thou after a good cleaning today, they don't tune to bad....

Jeremy260z...
do you still have the recepts for the cost of the 280zx injection system... that is the main part that i want to know also....

i don't care about the work that will go into it... i love working on the Z...

and my car is a 76 OZ spec.. so its got a L26 flatop top carbs... E88 head... it goes well... but only get around 260-300km a tank...

jeremy260z what do you get... if i'm not mistaken you have got injection... from a full tank just driving around melbourne how much Ks do you get from a tank..

thanks guys

Re: DONT BOTHER

yeah my car is injected - straight 280zx setup.

ive no idea how much cost, its was done about 6 years ago 2 woners vefore me. I only had the block changed around 2 months ago which was $1500 or so.

I dont think it woul dbe all that expensive to get an injected manifold from a wrecker, and all the other bits. Dizzy might be a problem because alot of them are shot and would need to be rebuilt (cost me about $300-350 for mine). Another possibility might be to get a skyline 2.4 injected setup. I know the injectors are the same - and i'd guess most of it would be the same or very similar. You should be able to get all the bits off one of these from Pick A Part or a similar self serve wrecker pretty cheap. I think there is a guy on this forum who has done that...

As for milage, my car is running a bit rich at the moment, but i get about 250-300ks to 45 litres
