We started it up and took it about 1/3 of a mile and it turned off. We couldn't get it to start up again. There was a raw gas smell, and we think that the engine was flooded. What would be the problem. We think it might be that the fuel sytem needs to be flushed, or mabye the fuel pump is putting out too much gas. It's an electrical fuel pump.We also thought that it might be that we need a new fuel filter, we put a new one in about a month ago but haven't driven it.
If anyone knows the problem, that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Put a Fuel Pressure Gauge between the Fuel Filter and the upper fuel rail. Turn the key to "run" and the fuel pump should run for 5 seconds and shut off. The fuel pressure should be 42 PSI.

Disconnect the a spark plug wire and place a screwdriver in it then hold it near the block and crank the engine. Do you have spark.

If no try doing the same thing with the wire going from the coil to the center of the distributor. Do you have spark.

If no disconnect the two wires from the primary side of the ignition coil. Measure the resistance it should be .84 to 1.02 ohms. The resistance of the secondary side should be 8.2 to 12.4 K ohms between the "-" terminal of the coil and the center output of the coil. DO NOT try to measure this with any wires hooked up to the coil.

If you get this far and still have no spark I would suspect the ignition module on the dizzy.

Report back for more instructions.

Get a FSM if you can find one.

Get a Haynes manual # 28014.
