I am close to buying a 75 280 z in San Diego, Ca. I live in Houston Texas, does anyone know of a good reputable mechanic/shop in S.D. that would take a look at the car and give me the lowdown on it before I make the buy. Also, other than driving it back myself any ideas or contacts to get the car to Texas.
You shouldn't have to go all the way to cali for a good car. If you do, I'd drive or tow it back. That way you can see the car yourself BEFORE you buy. Send them a downpayment and then check out the car yourself.

I have been looking for a light blue(color code 305), I want to keep it all original. I have found a couple in Texas, but they have needed major work and have collected major rust. Tell me if you know where I can find one like this in Texas. Thanks for the idea on getting the car back.

I'd start out networking through the local Z clubs in Houston, Austin, and DFW. Someone in those clubs might have one they would part with for a reasonable price. I'd also contact Jerry at All Z Car Specialist in Ft. Worth.
(817) 483-0383. If you are not in a hurry he sees a l ot of the older modlel Z's and could eventually find one for you. DFW is a lot closer than San Diego.

I'm buying a chassis to restore/fixup from Jerry at All Z Car Specialist. Just about any 280 Z without rust will fit my needs because I'm repainting, etc. With such a special Z car in mind, I can see why you'd have to search far and wide. Hope the one in California is your dream Z.

Are you the gent from Virginia? Jerry and I were talking the other day and he said someone from Va. was driving in between Christmas & New Years to pick up a chassis. I'm contimually amazed at how many folks know about Jerry. I guess a good reputation spreads far & wide!
I lived in Va Bch for 4 years in the 70's and then up in the Winchester area for a couple years after that. Both my sons are Va natives but basically grew up down here and consider themselves Texans.

I recently went to California to get a 240-z from Va. I did this because of the east coast rot problem. Cars in Ca. and parts of the southwest do not seem to exhibit the extent of rust/rot found in the east. I found a very nice 240 (had minor surface rust in some spots)and shipped it back to Va. I visited Datsun Alley in Signal Hill, Ca. where they restored 240's for Nissan. I inspected numerous 240's Nissan had repurchased and talked at length with Marc Jones, owner of Datsun Alley re:the rot problem. The bottom line is all 240's will have rust somewhere. Even the 240's carefully selected by Nissan exhibited rust somewhere on the car, albeit minor compared to east coast standards.
My 99.9% rust free 240 in good condition totalled $3,000 including shipping. All in all, not a bad deal for a nice classic. By the time my z is returned to highly respectable condition, i'm looking at $10,000 total I estimate.

John,
Actually I lived just outside of Winchester in a development across I-81 from Stephens City. Address was Rt. 2, 710 Lakeside Drive. Worked at the Corning Plant in Martinsburg and went to the 1st Assembly of God Church in Winchester when Hartley Wigfield was Pastor.
You don't just happen to know Gary & Terri Kerns, do you? This was back a few years - like 1978-1980. My youngest son was born in the Winchester Hospital.
Lots of memories - all good
Have a Merry Christmas
