Cant get my hatch open. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just got a keys made for my locks and they work and turn everything

but i put in my hatch lock and it was a no go

i can push down the lever thru access panel that is supposed to open the hatch but nothing happens im pretty sure something is broken please help i have not been able to open the hatch since i purchased the car. I think in gonna burn down the PO's house.

You can crawl into the hatch and remove the panel, then stick your hand in there and see if you can move the hatch release.

Never mind. I read your post again and you already tried this. I think.

yeah already did that but the hatch wont release.

Can you remove the rear panel and the remove the 3 ten mm bolts holding on the hatch lock?

I have had this same problem. Except mine is with the fuel door (fuel knob) locking mechanism. I have been told that some locks will adjust with worn locks and not accept new keys, so do the opposite.

I got it I had to unscrew the license plate light screws with the hatch shut (not easy) then i unbolted the lock mechanism and used a hammer and punch to loosen the very RUSTY locking mechanism. That thing probably has not been open in 10 years but im happy that i can finally lock and unlock all of the openings to my car, I am happy my work actually paid off it is wonderful.

CADET FYI, the Z came with 2 different keys. One, the valet, opened the door and ign only. the master opens glove box, fuel cap, and secret compartment. I believe the the valet was actually thicker than the master and thus would not fit properly in those other locks. So either you have the valet key, or someone has replaced your fuel cap.

I don't think the 77 came with a locking gas cap. Unlike the 76 280Z, locking gas caps are available and relatively inexpensive for the 77 280Z.
