K my 83zxt has rust up front under the fire wall and is rusted out pretty good.. but other than that the frame rails are pretty good.. the body is bad but fixable. the car I'm looking into is a 280z and I'm thinking of swaping the whold drive train from my zx to the Z. the Z at a glace has no rust... the body is farely straight has a nice spoiler and loovers. it's been sitting for a while I think. now undernieth was actually pretty nice... the oil pan looked wet with oil I guess(no there was no rain) and everything looked really nice... so I started poking around..... well I poked the spot where my rust is and it was solid but I poked a little farther down and when I got under the seats I put my finger through the bottom of the frame rail with ease... now which car would be easier to restore and modify.. My 83zx with frame rust and body rust.... or the 280z with from what I could tell(5 minutes, 3 pokes first 3feet) has little to no rust on the body and some pretty bad frame rail rust(just as bad if not worse than my 83zxt just in a diferent spot) I think I could swap the drive train by myself... thanks guy and gals

Dan

PS I think 280zx's look better but the Z is a classic and cna be made faster... and right now I want a car that is totally restored and I don't have to worry about spending money on it.... NO I don't want a new car, NO I'm not afraid of a little grease, NO I won't give up my Z(which ever on I keep) just because of a little problem... thanks

Re: CANCER SUCKS!!! where is the worst place for i

Come on down to the Sunshine State and pick up a killer ZX for like 2 to 3 grand.
So many cars that are sitting in some old ladies garage it isn’t funny.
I know some old guy about 4 miles from me with a 1982 Turbo that has about 20k miles on it and it too has been in the garage all it’s life but he want a bit more for his NEW old car $5 grand. Perfect like new.
You Northerners and your rust come on down and get a clean car and part out those rusters.
I paid 1,500 and another grand extra to make my rust free kick @ss 5 speed.
We are having loads of car shows in Tampa and Fort Myers very soon.
Fly on out and get a Florida car, we don’t salt our roads in the winter.

Re: PS my car...

That looks like a sharp car.
That would be sad if it had some evil rust someplace.
I don’t see the rust, but if you have rust on that fine car it must be wrenching.
The only thing I see is the sloppy spark plug wires.
If you promise me you will put them on and post them on your page I’ll send you a full complete set of original ZX spark plug towers, bolts and clips.
Your car looks nice but if you fix it up please fix those wires while you’re at it.
This is how your wires looked when they rolled of the ship from Japan.

Notice how they disappear into a perfect row of 6 right to the distributor.

LOL!! leave my wires out of this!!

haha thats funny! actually I have all the holders but there too smale to hold those wires. they are 8.5mm MSD wires... my appoligies michele I will clean that up as soon as I get a chance and rest assured you will be the first to recieve a pic.... hehe.. a little tip on your web page... instead of links going to there own page link them to the image directly.. lots of your links don't work.. if you look at my images they say .jpg at the end thats because they are just the image and not the page would look like yours http://www.geocities.com/enchantedspatula/2carty.htm
see your end says .htm because you created a page for each pic if you just make your link 2carty.htm link to 2carty.jpg your pics will show up..

O and if you put< and > at each end of your URL they will be linked
< http://www.geocities.com/enchantedspatula/2carty.htm >(there's spaces but if you remove the spaces

Re: LOL!! leave my wires out of this!!

Rex I have yet to learn web page creation.
I’m an Audio and Electronic Engineer and am learning about cars and other things.
Kristine makes the web sites when she gets a chance.
I'm sure I could figure it all out but between goofing of at work and hanging around I am finding little time. I was born with a high intellect and because of this learning more things becomes tiresome after a while.
Thinking too much becomes nightmarish.
So I'm trying to slack off more so I don't go MAD.
Try going to the main page and navigate from there.
I’ll pass on your idea to Kristine and let her fix it.

Personally, I would stay away from

a car with frame rails so rusty that you can stick your finger through them. 280ZOne posted this link in B&C to a nice looking project car on e-bay...you may be able to get it cheap enough that it would be worth shipping to Canada.
Check it out-it's in Northern California...

Depends (no not those ones)

Well its Depends on the condition, on my 280zx the frame rails had actual holes, yeah holes in them. The frame rail end is not hard at all, its just time consuming taking out the interior. Its not a hard job at all though, and I live in Calgary Alberta, home of the Flames (what an awesome start to the season) and know what its like with a zx, to most people they are history, but when the y see one in mint oooo its soooo worth it, aside from that it is now garaged since old man winter is here. But the 280z swap is not a bad idead either, so its your choice.

mine has holes...

yep big one on one side and a smaller one on the other... I live in medicine hat and I take fairly frequent visits to calgary... recomend any garages where I could get a good intercooler or blow-off valve or any nice turbo parts? next time I'm in calgary I'll have to get your location so I can check out that car of yours :)
I usually go to my friends place just off off 32nd I think and the hunchester or something like that... anywho don't you have a web page? heres mine

Re: CANCER SUCKS!!! where is the worst place for i

Madeline I live in Orlando and I'm looking for an 82zxt or 83zxt 5 speed. It has to be silver or the silver with blue combo. And it has to have the wide molding all around. I have an 82zx with 89,000 miles but I don't like the color. It a metalic burg with red interior. So if you run across one let me know.

[email protected]

Thanks,
Johnny

P.S. I'll be at the z event in Tampa next Saturday.

Cool, some canadians!

cool deal. glad to see a couple of canadians fairly close to me. I'm in moose jaw, SK. so its not too long of a drive up to medicine hat OR calgary.
I'm actually just in the market for my first z car. I've got my eye on a '80 280zx. and i really need a few pointers. The cost is $2500, but i've got him at 1700 right now. Took it for my first drive today and it drives pretty darn well. Clutch slips a little and would need to be replaced in the spring or summer when i actually start driving the car(would just be parked over winter). There is a smell though, maybe old gas?? or running a little rich. i think its been parked for a while. the body is in decent shape but has enough bondo on it that i would need to take it to the metal and patch all the spots right with some metal.
think that price is about right for that kind of car?
sorry i should post a new topic but i started typing all this and figured i would just keep going =]
