This isn't Z related, well, kinda. I have a '72 510 and I need to change the headgasket, so I thought I would get the head shaved. It is an L16 motor, which is an L24 minus 2 pistons thats why I am asking you guys. I was just wondering if I can shave the head to up the cr from 8.5 to about 10. thanks in advance.

RE: Can I shave a head .020" without needing

You can shave it up to .10 but I think you should shave a max of .080 so you will have something to shave off later if you need to true the surface due to running hot or warpage. If you shave it.06-.07 you should be close to 10:1 compression. Make sure to use cam tower shims if you shave more than .02 off the head or the chain slack will be excessive. Later, norm

don't forget if you shave it much you may need different lash pads along with the shims. Or maybe like the longer valves that Bryan Little used for his project head some of the ones from an L20B will work the same way (this is a guess though I don't know off the top of my head)
