Hi all,

I am assembling my motor and since my head was milled down and my block slightly shaved to flatten, my timing chain has a lot of slack. As it is a new kit, it is tight in the #3 position and the tensioner is almost all the way out . In the HOW TO REBUILD YOUR DATSUN OHC, it mentioned some shims i could put under the cam retainers. I want to do that, sine i am afraid the tensioner will come out of its housing at high rpms. where can i get these shims, and could i ahve a set made to fit under the cam, made out of metal. What have you guys done to help this, when you mill dowm the head. any suggestions. thanx in advance, hope this helps other people also

Hi Andrei----------The parts you want are the cam tower shims. They come in various thicknesses according to how much has been milled from the head or deck surface. You'll need to know how much the head and block were milled during resurfacing and order the appropriate shims for that amount. I think you might be able to get the shims at Top End Performance. Their website is www.racetep.com. You will need to reposition the cam towers EXACTLY when you reassemble the engine. The towers are line bored at the factory, and this alignment is critical. Some folks have a machine shop do the reassembly for this reason.
