Just the other day i saw a 77 280Z with chrome bumpers but the didnt look at all like the large gaudy bumpers on my 75 280Z. I was wondering where I could find these thinner styled bumpers, are the stock or special order?

It sounds like he had european 240Z bumpers or US 240Z bumpers with the rubber strips and standoffs removed. You can get the european bumpers from MSA for about $650 (ouch!). You would also need mounts. These bumpers are purely cosmetic and offer very little damage protection.
