I'm changing out two guages on my 72 240. When I got them out the bulb was blown so I went up to Pep Boys and got some more. But I am trying to think of a way to get more light out of the insturment panel. The dimmer switch is cranked all the way to the max.

It looks like the bulbs could handle more juice. I read about cleaning the dimmer switch but I am wondering if the dimmer switch of a newer car would let more amps through? Anybody know of an easy way to brighten up the guages without a great deal of work behind the dash?

A few suggestions

Avernet,

I asked a similar question, as kieth says, a few days ago.

Here is a summary of some good suggestions by a couple of the guys.

1.Use brighter bulbs, the stock ones are 3.2W and you could try 4W instead.

2. You could remove the green diffusers thus allowing more bright light in.

3. Paint the non visible parts of the instrument panel white which would reflect more ligh in (suggested on someone elses post)

If you want an excellent description of how to get to the bulbs go to the post "Please help with Bulb Question" and read escanlon's advice.

Thanks again to all those guys who gave me the help.

Re: A few suggestions

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought about getting brighter bulbs but I was just replacing two of my guages and didn't have ready access to the others.

I think that with all the trouble that it would be I can just live with it.

Thanks
