I have a 1985 aniv edition 300zx w/120k miles
Engine and interior are good

It has rust in front off the rear wheel wells where the body attaches to the frame and lots of rust underneath, not much rust on any body panels; it has been sitting for 4 years since the garage said don't drive it. I think the muffler shop guy may have grinded it [yes sabotage].

Anyhow, does anyone have any experience/ideas how much this kind of total frame/unibody rebuild would cost and what saftey issues to consider.

you mean 1984 50th Anniversary Edition.

It's probably not going to be woth it to fix the rust on the underbody.

Go and find yourself another car, and use this one for parts...I'm sorry, this probably isn't the answer you wanted.
