I also melted my fusebox when I had the same problem. Before the meltdown, I'd see the fuse glowing orange. It looked neat, but I didn't think that it was very good for the electrics. Many people swear by pulling the fuse box and re-soldering the connections. As the connections get old, the resistance increases. The current increases with the higher resistance, and the fuse blows.

Try the fusebox first. It's easier than trying to track down an intermittent short.

BTW: I changed my fusebox and never had the problem again.
