I think a company (Superperformace) in SA is manufacturing very accurate replicas of those as well as the cooler looking hard top coupe (daytona).

That is a "Backdraft"Cobra-one of the bargain basement Kit cars.Superformance makes one of the best replicas on the market.
Ya its an orginal with a FI 5.0 L engine....LOL

Why would you want an original?

It would only be an investment. A total garage queen or museum piece. You would not be able to drive it agressively, you would be worried about it every time you took it out or parked it in anything but your garage & any changes to its orginal condition will devalue it. The kit cars have better all round performance as most use modern suspension & engine components. If I ever came into a large amount money where I was able to afford orginal prestige vintage iron I would pass on it & buy a good replica for the reasons stated above.
^ Second that, every word.

You would be paying an unbelievable amount for nothing. Yes it's cool having an original blah blah but why bother when you can buy the exact same thing for so much less? The kit cars are lighter and perform better anyway.

You obviously hang with a North-American set of namby pamby 'enthusiasts' John H. In South Africa they RACE Cobras, and Shelby Mustangs as well.
The Cobra we ran at Spa the last two years running was 3.3 million worth of rolling history, having competed at LeMans when it was originally produced. Your attitude is typical of 'North American' car 'enthusiasts' who see dollar signs as something to be increased, and buy cars not for the love of the marque or competition, but for 'investments'... how sickening. And we weren't the only group campaigning a REAL race car, there were plenty of REAL GT40's and other rolling stock worth well more than ours.

Spa 6 Hours Historic, check it out, it's online. The Black Cobra Coupe, that's it. Same one that was at Goodwood last year.

Some people see dollar signs. Other people see a car that was built to race, and use it as the designers intended.

Because they are CAR GUYS not administrative managers and investment bankers looking for a return on investment.

Those are the guys that ruined the world this last go-round. Come to think of it, it was investment crazy pukes who did it in as well. Pencil-Necks that work in offices and make a living as human parasites sponging off other's misery.

Yeah, that sums up the post I'm replying to pretty well. Typical response from a person who 'calls' himself an 'enthusiast' but in reality it all comes down to money for him.

Again, sickening.

Check out Spa (or the hours Nurburgring, Petite LeMans, etc...) In Europe, they race real cars. Replicas get their day, but on a different level. FIA Group Homogolated Spec 1975 Appendix C...

Sure Tony, if you got the money why not buy the real thing. To me though, it is stupid and illogical to just buy for the "marque." On a much smaller scale but the same concept it's like buying an Escalade instead of a Suburban just because it says Cadillac on it.

Yes how typical of TonyD. Like how he says "we" like he actualy owns it.

Was it your 3.3 million $ car or did a internet acquaintance just invite you along for a visit because you just happen to be? Did you just sit your fat *** on the side lines, turn a few bolts, share a few drinks & not worry about the car? Post a proper reply when its your 3.3 million on the line & you don't have to worry about any out of shape fat *** american coming to Francorchamps to put your Cobra into the wall at Eau Rouge or the Bus Stop.

There are plenty of non prestige, non pedicreed, non $$$$$$$$$ vintage race cars out there to be bought, restored & raced hard for reasonable $. You can also build replicas & have them qualified for vintage as per vintage specs. Check out VARC, VARA, NAVRRA & VARAC.
Contrary to what you think, people who go to the races rarely need to turn more than a few bolts if they are properly prepared.
I guess those college football players flown in for tire changes on a NASCAR Weekend aren't members of the team, either?

There are the normal 6 Hour Enduro things that have to be changed, but I'm not going to argue team strategy, coordination of a multiple car team with three Shelby Mustangs AND a Cobra all running out of the same pit box...

There's more to going to a race than owning the car. I guess if you aren't the owner of the vehicle, then your contribution doesn't count in your world. Another typical bullsh*t post from John H.

Like I said, there are classes for REPLICAS, but they aren't governed by the strict period-correct FIA requirements as a general rule. Knowing more than my fair share of people who run in VARA....the level of preparation between an SCCA Club Racer and a Group FIA PRepped vehicle is like night and day.

Electramotive and Brock got to the top through not breaking, and prepping to an international standard in the days when privateers and SCCA Rules were nowhere near as comprehensive as FIA Homogolation Rules.

I think you would absolutely get apoplectic if I mentioned how much I get remunerated for these little trips where I "sit on my fat a** on the side line, turn a few bolts, share a few drinks, and not worry about the car"---sounds like ENVY TO ME.

There's that homoerotic sexual tension bubbling to the top again. Give it up JH, you're not cracking my vertical plumber's smile, no matter how much you try.

That's funny Tony ^^^
I figured if I came outright and said I got paid to come and"sit on my arse and drink beers" that may put him into overload. This last year cash compensation was around 800 Euros for Race Day (Saturday), plus expenses which run more than 3X that.

Not bad for "sitting on my arse, turning a few bolts, and drinking a few beers."

Who wouldn't take that "invitation for a visit"? Right? How can I get me in-laws to extend the same sort of "invitation," I can use the extra cash...

Like I said, the dude is obsessed with Tony the Fuzzy Bear... but I don't roll the Skippy/Hershey Highway like him, so he's frustrated and sometimes it shows. It's like Tony Curtis in 'La Cage' ya know? Bumthrummin... not judging, just picking it up on the normal male's gaydar and the cockpit hostile action screen is telling me I got his fleshy-sidewinder locked on my six and I got to take evasive action BUTT QUICK!
