Would a bad fuel pressure regulator cause an engine to start idling higher and surging slighting when idling? For some reason my 78 has started idling at about 1200rpms compared to 800-900 normally when warm. You can also hear and feel the engine rythym slightly surge and then come back down.

Have tou check the air regulator? that would make your car idle high. Or your timing.

Put a fuel pressure gauge between the fuel filter and the top fuel rail.

this will cause increases rpms??? maybe check all your vacuume hose one maybe cracked or allow air into the system some how??? small cracks are hard to see i use a mighty vac to check my hoses or you can just blow into them while covering one end to see if they leak>>> good luck michele
