I'm transplanting the R200 rear-end from a 77 280Z to my 72. Attached to the front diff cross-member was the mount insulator and some type of metal plate sandwich, stacked together and welded. Looks stock, but does this need to be moved to my 240Z? I don't have one on it now.

Looks something like this:

---------------
---------------
---
---
---
---

Could it be a balancer or something ?

Thanks guys and dolls!

RE: Metal sandwich plate on 280Z x-member?

Rob, I read in previous posts that this is a factory answer to vibration problems in the 280's. If I rember correctly (iffy at best) some z'ers removed it with no harm...so I would say you shouldn't need to xfer it to your 72. If my memory is bad, maybe someone who has done it will post. Hope this helps.

RE: Metal sandwich plate on 280Z x-member?

gary is right. It's a factory fix to cut down on drivetrain vibration. Leave it off.
