Is the differential supposed to have bearings around where the drive shaft enters the diff. How would you know if the bearings are bad or worn? Are they easily replaced?

Thanks

RE: Kinda technical question about the differentia

Yes, there is a bearing in there. Usually the seal will start to leak pretty bad when the bearing is wearing out. You can try grabbing the front and trying to move it up and down to check for play. If you think it is worn out, then I would trash the whole thing and start over instead of rebuilding it. If there is enough miles to wear out the front bearing, then everything else is probably worn as well, including the gears.
