When sitting at an idle with clutch NOT engaged, I hear something that sounds like bearing noise coming from the transmission area (I suspect it is the release bearing). When I press my foot on the clutch pedal to the floor, the noise goes away.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems like if it is the release bearing, the noise would occur when the clutch pedal is pressed and the bearing is spinning. Or perhaps it is something else entirely.

Thoughts anyone?

RE: Clutch/Bearing Noise

You are correct in assuming that the (clutch) throwout bearing would make noise when the clutch is engaged. The noise you hear is probably the transmission input-shaft bearing.

RE: Clutch/Bearing Noise

If the noise goes away when the clutch is disingaged and the transmission is in gear, then it is probably a bearing in the transmission. The throwout bearing can be noise either engaged or disengaged depeding on how it is worn. Usually ther will be a change in sound just as you put pressure on the clutch.
