I popped out the panel in the back that hides the spare and to my amazment it has to be the original spare(a REALLY old BF Goodridge) and even more suprising was a package wrapped in really dusty flat bubble wrap. When i picked it up i was even more curious, it felt like a bottle of booze. Opened it and its an original Datsun spare tire inflator.
Anyone else seen one of these things? i cant believe it sat back there for the last 21 years.

I know what you're talking about. It's on the right side of the trunk. I still have the original tire, but I'm not so sure if my canister is original. I think I once read somewhere that a small donut from some Hyundai fits in there, if you are interested in rplacing it. I'm not sure about it though

Oh yeah. In the spare tire well of my '81 ZXT I have the original Goodrich space-saver spare and an original can of the Datsun "Tire Inflator for 195/70 14, C78-14" tires. It is Part No. 40313-N4700. It is the same size as a can of propane and, when you move it side to side, has that half-liquid feel just like the propane can does. I don't know if it is still good, though, and was wondering myself what others are doing about having a usable spare. I just put a new set of tires on the car, but would still like to have a spare for those emergency situations. Can you still purchase "tire inflator" gas for the space saver tires? Anyone?

i would be fairly surprised if you could still buy the tire inflator gas. I'm curious if its safe to have in there, i mean what happens if it hits something and ruptures? i cant see that being a good thing.

Whenever I go to the junkyard I keep an eye open for extra cans.
The wildest can was from a 300 zx it was like an empty paper towel roll.
This thing was all liquid gas; I have been looking for more of these and find only the red cans. I wonder if someone has refilled these and with what gas. Maybe I should read the can. I wish I had a super fresh can in bubble wrap this is a real find. I do have a pretty good set up back there anyway.

I have about 10 cans but like I said lets all look into refilling them.
I’ll get right on it Sunday, but I’m not to knowledgeable about gases that can be kept in this liquid form but we can do it right.

My old Z had the inflator too... (cept mine was about 4" around and 12" long) Worked great! :)

After the one use, I just went out and bought a cheapy 12v (cigarette lighter) compressor. Worked great the next 2-3 times!

BTW, the sidewall on mine said 80km/h max speed... And it was right, 140 with it on the back right resulted in some wild fishtailing :)

I've got that old inflatable with the can. I'm sure its still good, as long as it hasn't develped a leak over the years...
Anyway, I think that is a cool spare tire. Its pretty wide and squared off and you don't have to worry about it being deflated; cause it already is!

I have the original in my car also. Since it only has 50k original miles on it, it should be there. In fact the original brakes, headlights and everything else is in my car. Just don't see anything amazing about it?
