I've been tracking down vibration dampeners recently and it appears as though the problems inherent in long crankshafts just won't go away with dampers that use rubber isolators, like on our Z cars. I've found a company that makes a silicon fluid damper very similar to the ones used in pro drag racing. All of their dampers are for domestic V-8s, but it looks like they might be interested in making up a run of dampers for L series Datsuns if enough people are interested.
The benefits of the viscous damper are documented best at http://www.fluidampr.com/problem.html,
though this isn't the manufacturer I'm talking to. The price for the V-8 dampers is around $160 or so--much cheaper than rebuilding an engine because the stock damper traded material with the crank before cracking.
If anybody is interested in this, let me know.
