I have an early '71 (#8325) with the Monkey Motion transmission. I've tried bushing replacements, but those seem to be focused on the "B" type transmission. Is there ANY way to tighten up the extremely loose linkage? If not, since the problem is so common among early Zs, why has no one developed a solution? What makes it so difficult to fix?

Thanks all. Looking forward to your responses.

Bumping it up. No thoughts or help on this? I've searched the forums, could not find an answer.

To repair it properly you have to remove transmission tail housing. The housing wears where the control arm contacts it. To repair it you have to resurface the case and made some filler shims. Most of the shifter parts will be worn and have to be repaired. The control arm is lubricated by transmission gear oil and as the case wears the o rings will not seal. A common leak source.
Repair requires basic skills.
