Hi guys,

I've been having problems on my newly aquired 240Z, I have been told that the external solidf state regulator has been frying my battery.

As I have an L28 installed, from a 280zx, I was thinking that maybe my alternator was of the variety that had the inbuilt alternator. Now if this is true then I'd be supplying alot of power to the battery! Too much in fact which could be the cause of my problem.

Can anyone spot from this very bad photo, cheap camera sorry, if this is one of the aternators which has the inbuilt regulator. It is made by hitachi.

Looks like a standard externally regulated alternator to me. I have two and they both look like yours.

I knew it would be so easy to discover with a picture, even a bad one at that!

I guess I'll have to replace my external regulator as its of the solid state variety which cannot be seviced unlike the mechanicial one, i think.....

It's an easy fix and not too expensive either.

Go to www.Zhome and check their FAQ on 280 Alts into a 240's wire harness. Your answers and fix are there. Later. shane-
