Alternator substitution??...
"Will an 82 280ZX alt work on a 78 280Z without messing around with the wires? Is it better than the original alt.? Will it just bolt on? Thanks in advance! Norm K.

I believe the 78 alternator was internally regulated. If so, I think it is plug and play. If not, between Zhome.com and this site, you'll find all the info to do the conversion.

They are exactly the same alternator on all z's from 78-83, regardless of model. They all put out 60 amps at 3500 rpm. Definently not an upgrade, you could call it an evengrade though.
