air flow meter seems a problem to many z car. this problem happened to my 84 z b4. i recently acquired a 78 z. my question is how to tell whether the air flow meter has problem or some other things have problems when the car can't start or die after a short (2-3 seconds) running. Also, people are saying that the air flow meter on a 75-77 z is different from the 78 z. Is that true. So, can i put the 79-83 afm to replace my 78afm. thanks

There are 2 afm's for '78's . Must have OEM, really need new afm instead of used.
It is a bit more expensive but in the long run much better. Also you really should check your gas tank also. I have seen many probs stemming from rusted out tanks.
I recently spent $900 on fixing my car to find out that the prob was simply a bad tank.
