Hi folks,
I'm looking to replace the factory stereo in my 81 280ZX. Does anyone know where I could get a wiring adapter to simply plug into a new stereo and the existing wiring harness? I know I'd need to re-wire my power antenna switch.
I don't think they make such a thing. But if you find one that works...be sure to post it here. There were a couple out there that CLAIMED to do it but never worked. I made my own. Oh, and you have to keep the oem wiring to the center speaker if you want bitchin betty to work...but then I don't think Betty came on an 81.
the plug that comes with the unit is not standard except as to din wire colors. Most are proprietary (ie a sony won't fit a panasonic) Nissan used their own wiring colors which don't match modern din standards. you can easily solder the plug to the existing wiring as long as you work out the nissan wire colors and match them to din. you should run new wires to the rears anyway because nissan used one common wire for front/rear speakers. most modern units like two wires to each speaker. keep the fronts as is and run new to the rears is easiest.
Thanks for the help and the links folks! I've got a professional installer that's gonna do the work and he says he has a harness in stock that'll accomplish what I'm looking for. I'll try to find out more about it and post some info here.
