advice for starting a stale motor?

368 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  luggnut73
got a complete 280ZXT that has not been run in at least a few months, maybe more. what should i do before i try to start it so that i don't break anything? i know about squirting oil in to the cylinders and turning the crank by hand first, but should i take any special care with the turbo too? any other tips?
thanks,
marcus

Marcus, I'd pull the plugs and spin the engine over a dozen times or so. If nothing squirts out the plug holes in the head, I'd install new ngks gapped at .044.
Siphon as much gas as you can from the tank and add 5 gal of fresh midgrade gas. Pull the aircleaner and reach into the intake tube to the afm to make sure no squirrels have left you a supply of walnuts. Make sure all the hoses are connected and not split at the ends. Make sure you have oil and coolant (hopefully not mixed).
Make sure the battery is fully charged and the connections are good. While you have the battery disconnected, pull the drivers inside kick panel and plug and unplug the ecu connectors 6 times each.
Unless something major is busted, she should fire up.
Good luck, Dan
