I have a '76 280Z with original (dealer installed? - the compressor was made in Japan) AC. It worked (barely) until I let the car it sit outside for a year or so. Now the compressor cluth engages and but the compressor shaft doesn't turn. I guess it's frozen. As far as I can tell the system is still charged. I would like to fix and upgrade it to
R134 myself. Here is what I've learned (and can still remember) from other people:

1) evacuate the system - I'll probably let a pro do this.

2) remove the compressor, drier, expansion valve (?)

3) blow out the lines thoroughly with compressed air

4) replace seals that come with upgrade kit - anybody
know a good source for these?

5) install new drier, compressor, expansion valve (?)

6) recharge system with R134 and oil.

I'm sure I left something out. Is there anything in particular
I need to watch out for? What is a good sorce for AC components - Motorsport or Victoria British? Is a rotary type pump a better choice over stock?

thanks for any help! ross

Sounds like you have most of it figured out. I would think you have a rotary compressor now. Yes they are superior to the reciprocators (now obsolete). Go for a rebuild or rebuilt comp. on your car if it doesn't spin you likely have severe internal compressor problems.
