My AC blows some cold air, but it makes the motor run hot. The water&oil temp go up quite a bit. Also, I can't get it to idle with the AC on. The car dies if you push the clutch in.

I don't have a clue where to start on this thing. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks
Mike

RE: AC is Killing my Car

First off...The A/C has a "Idle Up" solinoid and actuator. On the rotating throttle linkage there is a round device that you should see pull-in when the A/C is on. This is actuated by vacuum that is controlled by a solinoid. The vacuum hoses usually get old and break, this is most likely your problem. So, check all the little black hoses on the right side of your engine and report back on what you find.

The car will run warmer with the A/C on because the A/C condenser is infront of the radiator. If your radiator is old, it might just barely have enough cooling capacity to keep your engine happy. With the A/C ON the air that your radiator gets has already been heated by the A/C condenser.
