A temp control

When I got my 83 280ZX the heater and ac worked ok. Then the the heater started blowing cld, then it stop blowing at all. I have checked several things related to the blower but I can't figure out what is the problem. If I hook the blower directly to the battery it blows fine but t te wires get really hot. And when it is blowing it blows hot with the heater on. Any advice?

Check the vacumn lines under the hood on the passenger side. There is a vacumn tank with 4 hoses going into the tank. One of them is leaking and won't let the system turn on.
You also have a thermo switch on the passenger side of the motor. When the engine is cold it will prevent the blower from coming on. After it warms up a bit the thermo switch will make the circuit and the fan will come on.
does the service manual on cd have a detailed description on location and placement of the vacuum lines and vaccum pods for the operation of the dash vent system, the regular haynes and chilton manuals are worthless for this.

thanks

The short answer is YES the FSM provides specific info on the systems.

However, there is also a supplement manual, 1980 - 1983 Datsun 280ZX Automatic Temperature Control Air Conditioning (publication # 638-84) as well as at least two NTB's TS82-032 and TS83-066.

So here is how it works. The original FSM describes the system for the year of the vehicle. The Supplement describes the changes that were made to get the system working better. The NTB's document the changes that had to be made to correct the info in the supplement and the supplement describes the changes that had to be made based on the info in the original FSM.

Clear as mud, eh!

BUT, wait, there is more!

Some of the changes in the NTB's only apply to certain VIN's.

This is one of the main reasons that people who post questions here should specify the Year, Make and Model of what they are working on.

hello,

thanks for the reply I have a all manual temp control window, locks, 1979 280zx 2+2. The problem is when I switch the vent switch from vent to bi-level to defrost it does't switch right replace all the lines under the dash as well as the engine compartment. the engine vacuum pod was removed before I realized what it did, and am unsure of the hookup location for the canister. There is the yellow port, black port and then the top open one wich doesn't have any color or protusion just a plug in for the hose. I'm not sure of the accuracy of my hookup under the dash as well.

I hope this is more accurate

thanks
