I bought a 73 Z almost a year ago but have been held back by cost from doing anything to the car. Now I have some money to play. Thank you for taking the time to help.

1.How evil are the evil 71 carbs? Everyone here seems to like the early SU as replacments, but would EFI from a later model Z work? I hear everyone complain about late model SU but I would like to keep them for as long as possible... I'm in college to be makin me smart and I be pour...

2.What is the difference between Cut-Pile and Loop carpet?

3.Where can I get a seal to moon-stupid-hole-that-leaks? The places that offer seals do not seam to offer this seal.

4.The previous owner a whale-tail-piece-of-s### on the back. I removed the spoiler but now have holes, which I do not like. How do I fix this?

5. What does the half dash cap look like?

6. What place (or places) would be cheapest/best to order new carpet,Dash Cap and exhaust system?

Here are some answers to the questions

1. The early SU's are easy to tune and maintain. Most of us prefer them. EFI would be a huge job. You'd have to swap over the computer and all of the wireing harness from the FI motor, alot of work. Carbe are easier.

2. Cut pile is plush and furry like most newer cars have. Loop is just that, the loops are still there. Loop carpet is also more durable but rougher to the touch.

3. For this seal you\ may have to try and find some generic weather seal that is of the same shape and fit in yourself.

4. to fix the holes you can either have them welded over and ground flat or filled in w/ body filler. Welding is better but harder to do yourself.

5. The half cap only covers the top half of the dash and there will be a seam that goes along the length od the dash where it curves downward. Get the full cap it looks a whole lot better for hardly anymore money.

6. Check w/ places like MSA and Victoria British for the cap and exhaust systems. MSA sells a kit that will fit nice and sounds OK. For carpet check this place,

MSA and VIC Brit sell them as well.

MSA web site, request a catalog

Good Luck

Pre-73 SUs are the way to go. You may already have them on your 73. Is the top of each carb rounded like a bell or squared off like a coffee can? You want the rounded ones. See www.ztherapy.com

I have the carpet kit (loop) from TooIntense and I think it is excellent. I sent one back to 1aauto because I didn't like the fit.
