At least that is what that designation refers to. Maybe he's talking about the 90-92 300ZXTT?

Iroc CAMARO was always faster.

The CAMARO was always quicker. In stock trim, the Mustangs never came in a model that was faster than the equally equiped Iroc Z-28 CAMARO.

I'm unsure of the weight on the 2 cars, but the CAMARO always had better 0-60 times, and better 1/8 and 1/4 mile passes, all at higher speeds through the traps.

What is the point of this question anyways, considering this is a Z-car forum?

just curious

I was just curious because my cousin just bought a '92 RS. I beat him quick style with my '73 240(stock). But he said the Irocs are much faster. And I asked him if they're quicker than 5.0's and he wasn't sure. So that's why I asked you guys. I can't beat 5.0's cause my Z is stock and most people fix their cars up. How many of you out there can beat these cars?

I make it a personal goal of mine to romp every 5.0 that wants to run. Everyone around here with a Mustang thinks his car is the fastest on the road, and it's nice to have a 6 cylinder Import put them in thier place.

The Iroc's on the other hand are a little tougher. These cars came with a rough and tough 5.7, that was a pretty free flowing car. Nice big air intakes, big exhaust, and not much as far as catylists go. Super strong cars, that absolutly eat stuff up in the back half of the 1/4 mile. If you don't keep you foot in the throttle, one of these cars will catch you and make for a very bad evening, with his grandiose stories of a come from behind victory over the guy he just took 50 bucks from. As long as I dn't let up, and don't get the car jeking around slipping the tires on shifts, I'll beat them most of the time. BUt believe it or not, the ones that are stock, that have been taken care of, usually beat me. The ones that guys have upgraded are the ones that I stomp and chew up.

Burn Burn Burn......

The Iroc Z was a pathetic attempt by Detroit to jump on the Z name. Then they went on to Cavalier Z ant Truck Z....WEAK! The funny thing is if you talk to one of those V8 guys, they think Chevy originated the Z name... Kinda Funny...

Again Sorry to continue the Burn, But I am with Joe...

Ya gatta hate those 'stangs.

I have run a 13.2 at 110mph in the 1/4. Not to many stock stangs gonna reach that.

The problem with mustangs is they LOVE NOS. Man I tell you, it so easy to install a fogger set up on a Ford 302, that any redneck with an hour to burn can be foggin' a full bottle by the time the sun comes up. Many a Mustang around here has Nitrious, so I usually ask to see the trunk, the console, the rear seat, the passenger seat and in the tranny wall.(Don't forget about the heat shield that many a mustang owner will install around the master cylinder. The space between this shield and the firewall is perfect for a small bottle, for a 50 or 75 shot. Makes for a quick $50 at the race way, if they don't tell you.)

In march or April I plan to break th 12 second barrier that is currently walled up in front of me. I've got a new clutch, flywheel, and short-throw on the way as we speak, so I feel pretty confident. I'll be looking into exhaust some more in febuary, evey little bit will help. I havn't had my current set up long, but I am not very impressed by it, so I want MORE.

I'll tell you something you probally already know about mustangs, but I feel it needs to be mentioned.THe GT's are a completly diffrent car than those **** LX's. A good strong GT will get rocked by most LX's around here. The cars are a little lighter, and just seem to move down the road so much smoother than the GT's. I'll race most GT's without batting an eye, but an LX makes me think twice. An LX with everything done to it that you see most people do to the GT's, will chew the GT up and spit it out. I guess it has a lot to do with the wieght, and the fact that most LX's, around here anyways, are in better condition. I guess the younger croud got ahold of the GT's when they were new, and ragged them out pretty bad. The LX's just seem to be soooo much nicer. Like some old lady only drove them to church and back or something. I fear theolderr mustangs more than the newer mustangs. I rock the newer mustangs pretty bad. The aftermarket isn't as affordable for the new stangs yet, so there are fewwer that are fast. Anther couple of years though, and these UGLY UGLY cars will be walking on a lot of the imports that are embarrassing them now.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not a fan of Detroit iron, but the Z28 name, from which the Z in IROC Z comes from was first used in like '67, a couple years before the Fairlady Z was released in Japan. In case you're wondering, I own a '71 240Z...........

Hmmm... From the books I have read, The Z concept came about in 1965, the build team was assembled in 1967 and the first production car hit in 1969. I might be mistaken, If so I will take my 20 lashings, so sory if I have my history mistaken, but I have more info on Datsun than Chevy. But I would like to keep it that way. ;P

you can beat it? are you sure it was a V6 they mak

the IROC comes in V6 and V8 pretty much any turbo engine will beat a V6 FireBird or Camaro but if it was a Z28 the only way you could beat it is if you are running a high PSI Z28 run 12-13s in the 1/4 a Turbo 280ZX with Turbo gets 14s

I know the feeling. Here recently, I looked at a '93 LX 5.0. It was the same color green as my car, minus the Emeral green Peral coat. I came CLOSE to buying it, but i just couldn't bring myself to do it. I had a group of buddies that were pushing and shoving me for weeks, to buy this car, so that we would have a super fast Mustang in the club. None of them could afford it, so I was the only way that this beast was going to be cruised by one of us. I drove the car, raced that car, put 2 full tanks of gas in the car,(Better gas milage than my Z BTW.), but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. My Z is faster, gets more looks, and seems to draw much more attention on race night than any LX I've ever seen. I raced a '97 Camaro in the LX, and got my **** handed to me on a sliver platter. The LX wasn't any where near close. I raced the same Camaro 2 weeks ago, and beat it by a car length in my 280ZX.

Whatever car I choose,(I have a '64 Impala I'm working on now) or look at buying,(I'm looking at a silver '69 Judge next week), I think my Z will always be my favorite. Here in North Texas, there just aren't a whole lot of super nice Z's. So, mine stands out great. Everywhere I look, I see nice camaros and stangs. So it's no big deal.

Live on Mighty Mighty Zilla.

Re: Iroc CAMARO was always faster.

You guys forget that the chevy runs a 350 ci engine and mustang runs a 302. Cubic inches rules in stock form. Put a 351W in the mustang and it would run away from the camaro. The Ford Chevy thing has been going on for years. None of them look as good as a 240Z, but the 240Z with the Ford or Chevy engine is awsome fast, for far less money than it would take for us to pump up or Datsun/Nissan engines to make equal power. I own both types and enjoy each for its best qualities.

As I have discussed with several other people on this forum, horsepower and cubic inches, is not the end all be all. How do you explain the new 3.5 liter V-8 Lotus, that would chew the new 350 Camaro up and spit it out? If I remeber correctly, the new 4.? liter Ferrari eats the 488 cubic inch Viper GTS for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The RS camaro with the the TPI, OR the throttle body, were also faster than the the GT's. As you know,(I'm asssuming), the RS came with the 305. 3 cubic inches isn't enough to matter, in any case, no matter what.

What was really helping the camaro was the fact that it didn't have 4, that's right, count them 4 catylists, like the stang.

The camaro's intake, on the 350, and the 305, both flow more air stock, than a port polished GT-40 intake available for the Mustang. I don't know what you all know about the intakes of a mustang, but the GT-40 has been proven to flow more air than the Cobra intake, for the 302. So, what this means is that even the Cobra can't suck in as much air as the tuned port Camaro. As you know, the more air you get in, the more air you push out.

The mustang has tough time with weight transfer, especially with the GT's. If you drop the front of the GT, and loosen up the rear, it's the only effective way if positivly getting traction on a consistent basis. The problem is, you loose all handling capabilities around town. So you have to find a equilibrium point inbetween too stiff in the front and too loose in the rear. You'll never find a setup that works well with racing and cruising. The cars have an awsome amount of torque, and are capable of some viscious, viscious burnouts. But while you're burning your tires, the Iroc you're racing is laying down a 110 miles in the 1/4 mile pass.

As you can probally tell, I'm a bit partial to the Chevy's. I have my reasons, not just that the Camaro's look better, but they just seem to be a better car. For my money, Chevy will always be First On Race Day.
