86 300ZX with intermitant miss

915 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  black gold man
When I start the engine it runs smooth with the cold idle on, once it kicks out and the RPM's drop and the engines idle stubbles intermitantly. It almost sounds like it's going to stall but doesn't. The cap, rotor and plug wires are new and I would assume the plugs were also down (haven't checked them yet) Could it be a fuel injector problem? Did anyone experience the same problem? The car has 99,000 miles, 5 spd and non-turbo.

probbly the chts needs replacement. common problem. there is a write up on the web do google search. other things to monitor fuel pressure on the ring and vacuum at idle. vacuum leaks are the bane of FI engines. Look in the fsm for idle adjustment procedure. Idle circuits are somewhat complicated on the z31. No got the fsm. do a google search on xenon and fsm you will find it.
whats chts? Not familar with the term. What is the website for Xenon, couldn't find that either. Thanks for your help, just had the car for 2 weeks and trying to work on it in the cold.
Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor. tells the ecu to richen/lean mix while engine reaches operating temp. all you have to do (altho someone kindly gave you the link) is to put xenon zcar in google and take you right there. You need to learn how to search. Bing sucks by the way.
