86 300zx engine swap

2596 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  grimlerauto
I have a 86 300zx that started out as a n/a 5 speed car. I had an 86 turbo automatic donor car. The turbo engine and five speed are in, but im having trouble with connectors. It seems like i'm missing some and i have extra ones. Also security light flashes when cranking any help or photos would be great thanks.

Re: 89 300zx engine swap

It would help if you post photos of what things are missing connectors. As for extra connectors, there seems to always be some. For example, there are cruise control connectors that you obviously wouldn't use if you removed it.
Re: 89 300zx engine swap

i will try and post some photos in a little bit
there are differences in the 89 and 86. different engines for one thing. the 84,85,86 engines are more similar than the later years. and yes there always seem to be some unrelated connectors. what ecu are you using? the O2 sensors need to be matched to the ecu. better get the fsm for both years and start checking wires.
I screwed up the initial posting. I typo'd 89 instead of 86. Both vehicles are 1986. Sorry for the confusion.

This is by the oil fill cap.

This is on the passanger front of the engine.

This is by the fuel filter.

The first picture looks like auto tranny connectors but I could be wrong. The second picture is definitely the fuel temperature sensor connector that goes on the fuel pressure regulator. The third one looks like the cruise control connector.
there are differences between the n/a and the turbo engine. security light might be the hood sensor got jolted during the transplant.
Basically when it was swapped, we took the entire wiring harness and PCM from the turbo car, and mated it to the transmission from the non-turbo car. Had to obviously change from a flexplate to a flywheel, and also installed a new clutch. It all went together with relative ease. I have vacuum line diagrams from nissan that i was able to use to get those situated. I stuck a battery in to try it out to see what I had and the engine would crank but not fire. There was no spark or noid. The security light on the dash was flashing, so I'm assuming that has something to do with it. Where is the anti-theft system in these cars? Part of the PCM?

Forgot this other one near the EGR tube.
