Ok I know that the key codes are in the glovebox, but my glovebox was changed because the code did not work for my car. I was curious if the z31 had the code stamped on a door lock or the trunk lock? My 280zx had the code stamped right on the trunk lock all I had to do was take off the license plate light assembly and there it was.

z31's have two keys: the master key which operates all the locks and the valet key which operates only the door and ignition locks. Are you sure you're using the right key (master) for the glove compartment?

It would be a security breach if Nissan or any auto maker for that matter, stamped the key no. on a lock cylinder so it can be easily viewed. A car thief could take note of the key number, have a key made, and then come back and steal your car.

Thanks for pointing out the vanity/valet error, AZ-Zbum. I was in a hurry when I typed it and didn't notice it. I post edited the correction.
