Recently I replaced my boots to the airflow meter and the turbo, I cleaned the throttle body and connectors on the airflow meter, throttle position switch, air regulator, O2 sensor and the coolant temp sensor. After doing these I realized that my car idle just a little better but still has that hunting idle, but beside that it also started to idle at around 1000 rpm and there is smell of rich mixture from the tail pipe. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. I have replaced all the sensor on the car in search of this problem. Is this normal on 83 turbo cars. It also has a bit of hesitation on take offs but I believe whatever the idle problem is will fix both.

Search the archives for "83 zxt stumble" or "83 stumble" or "pre boost stumble" or something of that sort, there was alot of people attacking this pre boost stumble us 83zxt'ers have. The talking about this was going on bout 6-9 months ago.

I also have an 83ZXT with the wandering idle. The guy I bought it from said he had it checked out and that there was nothing wrong. It may be common with the 83's. I also have the stumble or turbo lag.

well, just so you know...it may be common for tthe 83zxt to have this stumble or wandering idle...but there are ones out there that actually run right...mine (atleast for now) doesn't have either of those problems...its got an entirely different list...but it runs good. you might consider instaling an air/fuel ratio guage and actually see if it's running rich or not...you can test the voltage at the O2 sensor if you want...but its hard to do that while driving...the guage will also come in handy if you do any mods to your car. Just curious...did the O2 sensor just get cleaned, or replaced? if it was replaced...did you use oem parts or aftermarket?

I also have a 83 280zxt
My car at idle and when I start it when its warm smells like it runs rich. But I average 20 mpg so I guess it is OK. I just hate when its warm and starting her up I have to crank it awhile but it always starts. I just figure and also I've been told its in the computer and to fix it get another ECM which I figure at that cost I could live with it smelling rich starting and idling when warm.

Anybody know where I can buy hydrolic lifters for 83 280zxt? Don't need them yet but sounds from time to time like a few lifters are not pumping up correctly at times.
