I replaced the crank angle sensor today and it didn't help, everything i heard said thats what my problem was, car itermitedly died, wouldn't start sometimes. I am going to sell the car if i can't get it running. it has good spark and good fuel, but the oil smells like gas and the car smells like it too but i can't find a leak anywere. i changed distributor, didn't help. I will change oil tomorrow and then save money for a new ecu, after that i am selling it. I really need some help here, the car is mint condition, red interior and white outside. PLEASE i don't know what to do. and last but not least i will have to change ignition module.

You might check out the message for hotrodz and spork-------regarding similar starting problem and oil smells like gas-------could possibly compare your issues to see if that is the problem, Good luck

sometimes the fuel smell in the oil is from bad rings, especially on a turbo, just something to keep in mind. I was down about 2 weeks ago, car died while driving like someone turned off the key. If I let it sit a while, it would run for half a second, and die. It turned out to be a corroded plug on the back of the alternator -- After I changed the fuel pump in a macs parking lot on thanxgiving day while everyone else was getting gorged with turkey. Keep on trying, you'll eventually find it.

I had a similar deal with an 82 280zxt that would die and wouldn't start. Had gas smell in oil. Nissan dealer told me that by trying to start it when it wouldn't fire caused gas wash -- enough gas built up in the cylinders and washed down into the oil. Least that's what they told me.

Never did find out why it wouldn't start, so I sold it.

Thx for all the advice, but while trying to fix it i striped a sparkplug hole out. So i will tear the top half of my engine off, take my head to a machineshop and have it sparkplug holes retapped, And then i will find out what ever the @!#$ my starting problem is, i might have to rebuild my engine. Oh.. well im not afraid of it. $600 113,000 mile,mint condition car is worth an engine rebuild. { i still think its my cold start valve. I will rent a compression tester and test each cylinder that will tell me if i need to rebuild. I will Clean and Repaint the top half of my engine, And i will keep you all posted.

Hey you can get the ecu pretty cheap from Canadian tire. They are 185 dollars new (canadian currency). That is what i had to do and i wasnt going to spend 825 canadian on a new one from nissan
