Hi,

I took my 280zx into the mechanics a few weeks ago to get the head gasket and exhaust manifold replaced, and since getting it back I've been noticing that the oil pressure has been going really high when I accelerate.

Assuming that each notch on the dial is 15psi, I'd say it goes up to about 65psi when accelerating, and drops down to about 30psi when stopped at a light. I certainly didn't notice this much variance before getting the work done.

Is this acceptable behavior for a ZX, or should I be concerned that something was not done correctly when the gasket & manifold were replaced?

Many Thanks for your replies!

Re: header

DevilP, to answer your question, as a rule of thumb i believe it is 10psi for every 1000rpm on the tach. It depends on what RPM you bring it to, but the stock electronic oil pressure sending unit is extremely inaccurate. Even to the point where it reads pressure at 0 when pressure is actually perfect. I would recommend getting a mechanical sending unit, and an aftermarket gauge.
