I'd like to swap an 82 zx (nonturbo) motor into my 77 280z 2+2. Will my 77 manifolds work? I'd obviously like to keep the same intake manifold and all its associated fuel injection stuff, or will the later generation system work with my car's computer? Hmm. Lotta questions here, I know. I also understand that my 2+2 has a bigger clutch disk, does this require swapping its flywheel to the new motor? Or will it bolt on? If anyone has any info and are willing to share, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks again,

Quill

Quill,
i was thinking about that same swap not too long ago. yes you can use your early manifolds on the later engine, but i think you could get away with using the later motor complete with manifolds, with your early harness. the injectors are the same and i think the air regulator is also. not sure about the throttle position sensor. i think if it will plug in, it will work. thermo-time switch and temp. sensor should be the same, but there may be another sensor under there with nowhere to go to. also an O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold with nowhere to go to.you probably want to use the early air flow meter, computer and distributer.
you will have to change flywheels to use the bigger clutch. the 2+2 clutch has 9 bolts where the coupe has 6.
have fun.

Quill,i did the exact same swap with my 78 280z 2+2 except i used an 83 zx motor and what i did was wire in the zx harness, bad idea, ended up using the old harness with distributor and old computor, this way everything just connected up with no hassels and it runs MAGNIFICENT.I love it.hope this helps Dave
