Power steering's my first thought too. The first steps would be to check the fluid quantity & quality. Then the lines. Look for leaks on the hoses and where they're connected. Fingers crossed it's something simple.
82 280zx makes weird noise when turning
Whenever I turn my wheel, it starts smooth and then I hear a squeaking noise towards the front of the car and the wheel starts to get hard to turn. It only just recently started happening. My suspicion is an issue with the power steering

I checked the fluid and it’s good I haven’t checked any of the lines yet. A week ago I noticed that there was a puddle of power steering fluid under the car. It seemed to be leaking from the steering rack boot (I don’t know the exact term so if I’m wrong forgive me). It hasn’t leaked since then so I don’t really know what’s going on.
If you're turning until you hit the stops at the end of the wheel travel, it may be normal. Sorry for the late reply. When I turn the wheel about halfway in any direction it will squeak. I also found that whenever the car is jacked up, the fluid will leak out of the steering rack boot. Found this out yesterday when we were getting tires changed.
The harder you turn, the more demand there is to keep the powering steering pump turning to maintain pressure. The belt will squeal if it starts to skip. The belt is either worn out or the belt tension is too loose. I'd suggest installing a new belt and install to the proper tension.
