Help, anyone with ideas,

1. when accelerating in 3 or 4 (probabbly 2nd and 5th) and my roms are in the high 3000's the engine just kind of hesitates, dosen't want to go any faster, it almosr acts like it is flooded or something.

by the way, I put in new spark plug wires, cap & rotor........

2. second question, what good would it do to replace my original coil (20 years old) with a new one ?

Does the engine "cough", or hiccup at all?
Has water splashed over the engine recently?
If yes to the above, could be the throttle sensor, located left hand side of engine, just up a bit from the air flow sensor. Try drying it out, etc.

As for 2)... I had problems with my 81 a year or so ago... the auto electrician I took the car to "fixed" my coil (as part of his inspection cost). Didn't know it needed fixing, and couldn't tell any difference in driving. So... if it aint' broke... and even if it is...
